Today we are going to Change the Fuel Tank on a Hatz 1D42S Engine. Firstly before removing the tank, you can check the fuel cap. To do this check the internal seal for any wear or tear. You may also want to drain the tank before you change or remove it. To do this you will have to unscrew the hexagon nut underneath the tank with a spanner. Let the diesel drain into a suitable container. To free the top of the tank, you will need to use a Hex Socket Spanner to remove the two nuts, spring washers, bracket, metal washers and the rubber washers. To release the bottom of the tank, use a Hex Socket Spanner to unfasten the two screws, then remove the washers from either side, follo wed by the bush located at the back of the tank bracket. Before freeing the tank, you will need to release the fuel hose. To stop any spillages, place long nose locking pliers over the fuel hose. (Tip: place a drip tray underneath to catch any spillages). Prise the hose slowly from the fuel filter with pliers. Then at the back of the tank remove the other hose. The tank can now be removed from the engine. Replace if your current tank shows signs of damage or wear and tear. To fix the new tank onto the engine you will need to place the bushes back over the studs, followed by the washers. You can now partially secure the tank over the two studs. To secure the bottom part of the tank, you will need to place the washers over the screws. Then feed the screws through the holes, placing the bushes at the back. Place the rubber washers and the metal washers over the studs at the top of the tank. Fix the bracket back and then the washers over both studs, and secure with the two nuts using a hex socket spanner. Connect the hose to the back of the tank with pliers. Now reconnect the hose to the fuel filter, and release the locking pliers. That's how you replace the fuel tank on a Hatz 1D42S Engine.
